Obipektin AG was founded in 1936, designated to produce pectin. 1960 was the beginning of the fruit and vegetable powders production using
vacuum and drum drying technology. In May 1958, the company Unitroc AG was founded in Burgdorf/BE. The basic idea was to produce high-quality foodstuffs with the Birs-drying technology (cold spray drying). Due to the outstanding specific properties of this process, the cold spray drying technology was used for fruit and vegetable powders production in the sixties. After having installed the first of total three hot spray driers in 1972, the opportunity of industrially producing fruit and vegetable powders (in particular tomato powder) was established. Spreda AG in Burgdorf was founded in January 1964 and leased the manufacturing facilities from Unitroc AG. In October 1973, Unitroc AG was merged into Spreda AG. In 1983, Obipektin AG took over the majority of Spreda AG capital shares and turned it into its sister company. Spreda AG Burgdorf was renamed to Obipektin AG Burgdorf and therefore became a branch of Obipektin AG. In 2000, Obipektin AG was acquired by the British Braes Group based in London, owner of the British company Overseal Foods Ltd. (www.overseal.co.uk)
